The Xavier Centre of Historical Research is a Jesuit history research centre located in Alto Porvorim, Goa in India. It was founded in the late 1970s and its first director was Teotonio R. de Souza (1979–1994). Charles Borges, who had served as Administrator and Associate Director, took over the direction of XCHR until the year 2000, when he left for Maryland College in Baltimore as its faculty staff. He was succeeded by Delio Mendonca, SJ and the current director is Savio Abreu, SJ. It is a prominent institution in Asia for its focus on Indo-Portuguese issues, and besides organising seminars and talks, it also publishes a number of books related to the Portuguese in India and Asia, Goa, the Jesuits and other historical themes. HOUSES OF GOA MUSEUM (TORDA)

 

We in Goa have a strange but novel
history and that is, we are part of the first
sustained encounter between the East
and the West. Though we have a long
and rich history from times immemorial
and much before the arrival of the
Portuguese, this encounter produced a
culture and architecture which is unique.
This museum showcases the houses
which were the prime expression of the
Goan identity.
The Museum is built as a traffic island in
Torda, Salvador-do-Mundo Bardez Goa.
Strangely enough it is in the shape of a
triangle and resembles a ship. Viewed
from the outside it is a mystery, but as
you begin your visit, it slowly unfolds its
charms.

FAMOUS PLACES IN PORVORIM

INTRODUCTION

 

 

 

 

 

Porvorim is the legislative capital of the state of Goa, India. It is situated on the right bank of the Mandovi River. The administrative capital Panaji is located on the opposite bank. Considered as a suburb of Panaji,Porvorim is considered an upmarket residential hub as it lies on the prime Mumbai–Goa highway NH17.

Porvorim is hardly a couple of kilometers from the state capital, Panaji. Officially a village, it provides facilities no short of that of a town or a small city. Porvorim is well connected by roads. The National Highway 17(NH17) runs through Porvorim. Infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, hotels and highways is developing here at a high pace.

The Mall De Goa shopping mall is situated here. Historically, Porvorim was originally centered on the village market at the crossroad between the Panaji– Mapusa highway and the Socorro–Sangolda road.

I stay in porvorim since I’ve born. It has many unique places with their unique story .So I have decided to take this topic and let other people also know about this unique and such a beautiful place.
